Celebrating Love

Autumn McKenzie Jackson

I am always looking for reasons to celebrate life.  Is not love one of the greatest parts of life?

Valentine's Day

The commercialization of Valentine’s day can be a bit much.  Perhaps, it puts undo stress on us.  As if love is not complex enough, we must negotiate the quagmire of hopes and expectations of Valentine’s day.  Did you get flowers? Chocolate? Card?  Dinner reservations? Jewelry? Proposal?  It is hard to compete with all of this.

Heartfelt

Still, if we are nudged to take a moment to acknowledge the good in our relationships, is this not a win for everyone?  Celebrating love from the heart can never go wrong.

On this Valentine’s day, I sit in front of my computer with the courage to write about love.  Claiming joy is a must.  I am grateful that I am in a place where I am ready to consider love.  Not too long ago, I thought my heart was broken beyond the repair of time.  I am feeling blessed to have the capacity to want to consider love again.

Getting to know someone requires time, patience, and vulnerability.  I need more of each of them.  Nonetheless, I have decided that love is worth it.  I am ready to consider love and in my world-that is worth celebrating.  I have faith that it will all work out.  May we all find reasons to celebrate love and find ways to do it on more that just Valentine's Day.
