Magnificent Maui
Why Hawaii?
I have dreamt of going to Hawaii for a long time. I love nature. Hawaii is considered one of the most beautiful places on earth. Until now, I have not been. I had lots of excuses.
Excuses
My excuses included:
1) Too far. When it comes down to it, it is so far away. I live on the east coast. There are several places between here and there or fewer hours in the opposite direction that I have not been.
2) Too expensive. The second barrier is cost. Everything is so expensive from flights to accomodations. I consider myself savvy and thrifty in travel and all things but there are not too many bargains to be had in Hawaii. The prices of hotels are jaw dropping. The prices of Airbnb were still staggering
3) “It’s just another island.” I know better than this. I find ways to appreciate each destination for its unique features and I adore each of them for different things. With the exception of the beach, I try to stay away from the generic things that make all the memories run together. I love landscapes.
Life Balance
I struggle with the balance of living now versus deferring something for a more ideal situation. Perhaps waiting for the girls to get older. Perhaps when I have more time to spend there. Perhaps when it is easier to rationalize this expense. I believe it is easy to miss opportunities while waiting for everything to align perfectly align.
The Cost of Missed Opportunity
I will pay more for this trip than I really want to. I was able to combine a work/professional need with a destination that I really want to visit. This greatly reduced the out of pocket costs of going to Hawaii.
Ultimately, I concluded the cost of regret is too high and time is uncertain. I am so glad that I went. Follow me on IG @RoadMaptoYourDreams to see more pictures. Stay tuned for future posts with trip details. Subscribe to Happy for free and receive updates on nw content.
