Some Days it's Hot

“Swimming, swimming, in the swimming pool. Some days it’s hot, some days it’s cold in the swimming pool. Breast stroke, side stroke, and fancy diving toooooo….”
I remember singing this at camp in rounds or maybe it was just replacing some of the words with humming until we hummed the whole thing. Summer is the perfect time to be nostalgic. Does anyone else remember this song?
All four children participate in our neighborhood summer swim league. It lasts about 6 weeks and there are swim meet every weekend. It is nice to have all children in the same place at the same time and all involved. Add club swim for Audrey, club volleyball for Alivia, and a few camps for Shiloh and Joshua it all adds up to one happening and hopping summer.
I love summer and while technically the Summer Solstice is still around the corner, after the pools have opened, I say Summer is officially here. What is better than the sounds of laughter and water splashing?

In Maryland, it has been raining through the Memorial Day weekend and through the week. It’s the kind of weather that few elect to go to the pool. The sky is dark and the rain is steady. It is just shy of a downpour or thunderbolt that would close the pool. Still, practice must go on. Meets, too
This is one of the reasons why I love sports. You learn tough lessons that translate to real life experiences. Sometimes it doesn’t make the most sense in the moment, but the right guidance can give perspective. We are building character. There are times in the pool, on the court, in the classroom, and in life where the ideal conditions are not present, but you have to get it done anyway.
These two are not quite committed to the idea nor are they able to put words to it quite yet, but at a young age, I was sharing with them the mentality of a champion and overcomer. What I have learned and continue to learn is not just for me. It is for them and generations to come.
God has big plans for each of their lives. They have been created for significance. I have been given the privilege to raise them up.
