Mothered and Mothering

Happy Mother’s Day!
Being mothered is a universal experience and an incredibly beautiful life long process.
Although my mother, Patricia McKenzie, passed six years ago, her love, guidance, and prayers still influence my life. Stepping into the role of raising four children has radically changed my perspective on life and continually increases my appreciation for her as my mother (and as a mother to six).
I am grateful for the women that God has placed in my life to mother me along the way, especially now in the wake of my mom’s passing. God is intentional. It is out of the abundance of His love for me through others that compels me.
Being a mother is blessing! I am grateful for the four children in my care. Mothering is a beautiful experience and it shapes me while I shape others. What an extraordinary design!
Additionally, I love my mom friends. We get to share stories of mothering and being mothered by text, phone, and get togethers.
What a rich and rewarding experience this is! Whether you are called mom, aunt, sister, or friend, much love to the women who intentionally mother!
While I was at my brother Darrell’s life celebration in NY, there was a windstorm in Maryland. I received a text from my neighbor that they were calling the police
I don’t know exactly when I realized that I was scheduled to work the same day Audrey and I were to fly to Orlando, Fl for National Club Swimming Association (NCSA) Age Group Championships.
As I prepared for my brother’s life celebration, I found out that I had no way to prepare for what I experienced. I already have the utmost admiration for my brother, still, over the course of one afternoon at West Point…
I am certain I did not understand the full significance of what he wrote then nor do I now, but I knew enough to hold onto his letters.
I tend not to be awestruck, but my older brother, Darrell, is an exception. He is my superhero.
If you have never made a declaration of faith and you want to make that commitment, here is how.
Being mothered is a universal experience. It is a life long process.
I am grateful for all those who have touched my life and continue to invest in me in this way. God is intentional.. It is out of the abundance of His love through others that compels me.
