/Money or Time.
I value time but more money would make things so much easier, right? Despite championing time, I recognize that my time is tightly hinged to money. Therefore, money is an important topic to discuss.
Money and Time Collide
My husband died in his thirties of Lung Cancer. Time is not certain. When I went back to work after losing my husband, I was working to repay an hour deficit in my contracted hours from missed work. I am scheduled to work a certain number of hours a year and I took time off that I did not have. I needed more time off but the bills of my formerly dual income household continued to pile and I had two little girls depending on me. If I did not go back to work I would lose my house. I wasn’t ready to make the decision to sell my house.
"Money Master the Game"
I was gifted the book “Money Master the Game: 7 Simple Steps to Financial Freedom” by Tony Robbins.
Tony Robbins made me recognize two things
1) It was my first realization that my paycheck owns me. I value time but I need money. Money could certainly free up some of my time. Despite making a decent living, my expenses keep pace with my income. If I have bills waiting on my paycheck, I am not free.
2) I desire financial freedom and will take actionable steps toward the same.
Financial Freedom
Financial freedom is my goal but it will not be at the cost of sacrificing quality moments today or now. I will not work so hard accumulating money that I miss moments, but becoming financially independent is a goal and it take sacrifices. It is a difficult balance that is better achieved when we have better information.
I am grateful for this book. It changed my outlook on money. Money is a part of our existence and we cannot ignore it. It is important to gain a deeper understanding of money rules and Tony Robbins does well to introduce numerous resources and strategies. I have since read numerous additional books from the financial greats that he introduces in the book. One of my favorites is John C. Bogle.
